#6 Mt Eden Dubstep - Sierra Leone REPLACED with Mt Eden Dubstep - Still Alive

Rusko & Caspa's Custard Chucker falls one place behind Mt Eden Dubstep - Sierra Leone. That's likely due to the missing vocal. With an impressive 7,697,309 views on Youtube, Mt Eden Dubstep - Sierra Leone is a great example of the growing popularity of Dubstep. The sound of drums is pretty cool and the vocal in the background keeps a mellow tone. Like Custard Chucker by Rusko & Caspa, there isn't an overwhelming electronic screech or noise to it. The track in general is on the softer side.
I don't agree that this song however belongs in this list at this position. I would remove #8 Rusko & Caspa - Bread Get Bun and place this song as #8. As for #6, I would put Mt Eden Dubstep - Still Alive
It is evident to me that songs don't get 19,148,433 plays on Youtube for nothing. This song has a Trance-like feel to it. Definitely heavier on the vocals that most Dubstep songs. I don't really consider this song Dubstep, but rather a "newer trance" song. It could be a sign that Trance is adapting and taking in a different style that Dubstep has. The result is a great 4 minutes and 38 seconds of heaven. This song gets a rating of 8 for maintaining a original flavor or style while incorporating styles from other genres.

#7 Rusko & Caspa - Custard Chucker

Ahhh, what else can I say? This song sounds like something I heard or might of heard one night while at a party. I really like how there aren't any harsh screeching tones. The track is overall has this cool and mellow feel to it. Custard Chucker gets a 7.5 due to the mellow awesomeness is has when compared to Cookie Monster by Ginger Pubes (#10 on this list). Instead of screeching tones, the chill tones brought me a chill night. Rusko and Caspa are better well known in the United Kingdom where as Deadmau 5 and Skrillex are better well known here in the US. It also appears that this list has a bias towards artists more well known to the UK rather than the US. Hence, Deadmau 5 and Skrillex aren't on the list while Rusko appears 4 times on the top 10.

#8 Rusko & Caspa - Bread Get Bun

As young adults, I want to warn you of the language in this track. However, my task is to connect your mind to the heart of some GREAT beats. Rusko & Caspa's Bread Get Bun has a sick beat! Its has smooth transitions; the beats lead into the lead into the next beat. Plain and simple: I rate this track a 6.5. This song wasn't as hot for me when compared to Rusko's Hammertime.

#9 Rusko - Hammer Time

This song knows how to drop a beat! With 3,808,602 views on youtube and over 7,000 likes, I could not disagree with the likes. Its shorter than Ginger Pubes' Cookie Monsta five minute track, but too short! I wished it was longer! This track has the nice Dubstep feel to it. I don't know how to explain it in other words besides straight up amazing! Its not one beat being dropped over and over. There is some repetition, but it has some great variety. I would give this song a 7.0 for Rusko expressing his style and properly integrating it into Dubstep. This song should be in your iPod!

#10 Cookie Monsta - Ginger Pubes

Coming in last on my the top 10 list I Present to you Cookie Monsta - Ginger Pubes. Sorry if I sound like pitchfork, but from listening to this song; I can see why it came out on the bottom of the list. The beginning is more of a weird intro rather than a suspenseful intro. Then it goes into a odd beat that you have to "grow into". After listening past the 80 seconds or so; the beat continues to have its weird vibe. At this 80 second mark, either you like this beat or you don't. Its too weird for my taste, but a nice twist around the 2 minute 30 second mark and another towards the end saves this song from receiving a low rating in my opinion. Personally, this song would get a 4.0. I think the song deserves this rating because it took me sometime to like it. After listening to it for about 2-3 times, I think this song is not bad once the taste is acquired. Hence, I shared this song with you all after exposing you to Dubstep in hopes that you could acquire the taste. If you still don't like this track; I don't blame you. Its kinda like acquiring a taste for coffee. I would put this song as the equivalent of black coffee in my metaphor. It might be too strong for listeners. Previously posted sound tracks are the Starbucks of Dubstep. Its sugary goodness thats hard to hate.

Connecting your mind to your heart with Dub-step!

Going a bit further back in time

In the previous post, I shared a bit of "recent" dub-step.
Skrillex's Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites was released back in 2010.
Now I will go two years back to 2008 with a popular favorite Deadmau5 and his most played song on Youtube. With 19,208,444 views I present to you:
Deadmau5 - Ghosts and stuff
Please ignore the end of the video. I don't know why there is "random talk".
Deadmau5
Grammy award nominee for "Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical" in 2009 and winner of 3 Juno awards (A music award in Canada); Deadmau5 could be considered one of the first dub-step artists that helped shape and define Dub-step into what it is today.

This soundtrack is a bit older or for better words; one of Dub-step in the earlier years. Given that Ghosts and Stuff is almost three years old; I find it to use more traditional elements of techno and trance. Yet, this is still a great "classic" example of Dub-step in it's earlier years still cranking out some amazing beats!

From the End to the Beginning

As mentioned in the first post, I will analyze of exposure to mainstream and sub-mainstream Techno & Trance and from it, the rise in popularity of Dub-step.

Taking a backwards approach, starting with a popular Dub-step soundtrack:
Skrillex - Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites

Skrillex
According to Wikipedia, at the age of 23, he is already famous for his remixes and soundtracks. With remixes dating back to 2009 and Albums from 2010, this artist is really fresh to the music industry. This is understandable knowing that deb-step is relatively new. New or not, his music has caught the attention of many. As of today, Skrillex's Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites has 18,895,820 views on Youtube!

His sense of music taste is a bit refreshing from the traditional sense of techno and trance. He does this by combining elements of both techno and trance while putting his own spin into it.

I don't recall hearing this song in the clubs, but I do know that several house parties played this soundtrack. So, do expect an increase in popularity with Skrillex and possible integration of Dub-step into mainstream media such as advertisements.

The Master Plan

The introduction of Trance and Techno in the late 90’s caused some controversy and tension between those who stuck to other genres and those who quickly fell in love with Techno and Trance. Techno and Trance made it to the floors of Clubs and into mainstream media.

Mission Statement condensed into 3 main points.
  1. The analysis of exposure to mainstream and sub-mainstream Techno & Trance and from it, the rise in popularity of Dub-step.
  2. To connect great beats to the ears of people while digging deeper into the feel of beat.
  3. To look into Techno & Trance as a possible source, remixed into a new genre called Dub-step.
--Edit 8/13/2011--
This blog will be continued until the mission statement is completed.
